The Data Support Specialist will provide supportive services in the creation and management of data management systems designed necessary to operate the state refugee program. They will work closely as part of a team to understand reporting requirements and design systems to meet reporting needs. Prior knowledge of databases, their structure, maintenance and reporting capabilities is essential.


  • Consulting on the purchase of existing refugee support services software, hardware, peripherals, etc
  • Coordinating and collaborating with database contractor and agency IT personnel to ensure tailoring of product to Missouri specifications and on issues of server, security of data, hardware
  • Extensively testing and ensure functionality of the system before use
  • Advise, train, and mentor state refugee office and local agencies on the use of the new system
  • Data upload and entry and monitoring use of agency SharePoint site
  • Monitoring quality of entered data
  • Design, develop, and regularly support additional, custom, or new reports as required
  • Being point of contact for national and local agencies dealing with data management
  • Troubleshooting database issues with database contractor, state refugee office staff and with local agencies
  • Identifying and assist in implementing improvements to system designs and processing methodologies to improve efficiency, scale, reliability and mitigate operational risk
  • Writing procedures, methods, workflow documents and standard operating processes and developing manual for use of database
  • Attending events and meetings and assisting in setting up audio/visual
  • On-going tracking of hardware and software inventory
  • Some regional travel required
  • Performing other related duties and activities as appropriate


  1. Education and Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems or related area
  2. Knowledge and Abilities: Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Must have knowledge of and the ability to adhere to confidentiality standards. Experience working in diverse workplace or with diverse cultures strongly encouraged. Knowledge of refugee systems and services strongly preferred.
