Part-time Afterschool Program Assistant 

Up to 10 hours per week, 2.5 hours per day:  M – Th, 3:15 – 5:45 pm. 

For 14-week fall session of Afterschool program: September 1st - December 5th (excluding Thanksgiving break week of November 26th-29th)

Description of program:  Afterschool program for immigrant students at Roosevelt HS meets M – Th from 3:30 – 5:30 pm at the International Institute of St. Louis and relies on a team of volunteer tutors to provide HS immigrant students with homework help Monday – Wednesday and structured recreational activities on Thursdays.

Program Assistant Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Coordinator in preparation and implementation of program activities and materials
  • Assist individual students or groups of students with homework help and skill development activities
  • Assist with managing volunteer tutors
  • Help to address emotional or behavioral situations that arise during program time
  • Communicate with Lead Coordinator or Program Manager about any issues or problems that arise during program hours
  • Communicate with parents, family members and schools as needed
  • Record volunteer hours and notify Lead Coordinator or Program manager of absences
  • Serve as coordinator in absence of Lead Coordinator
  • Abide by IISTL policies and agreements
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Second language (Spanish, Dari/Pashtu or Swahili) preferred

Experience: Prefer experience working with adolescents and/or students with limited English proficiency in an educational setting
