Duties for this posiiton include:

Assist clients in scheduling medical appointments
• Arrange 1st PCP (Primary Care Physician) appointments by phone for new arrivals
• Arrange follow up appointments, such as referrals to specialists
• Set appointments for client medical appointments such as vision, dental, well women and school physicals
Of note: It is a prohibited activity for an AmeriCorps Member to be involved with providing abortion services, referring clients for abortion services, making appointments for abortion services, and providing transportation to abortion related appointments.

Interpretation and transportation services for appointments
• Request interpreters for client appointments, via fax/e-mail
• Arrange for and/or provide bus training
• Set up appointments on caseworkers’ calendars in Outlook
• Orient clients on bus transportation to and from appointments

Client Assistance and Education
• Assist clients in finding medical related resources
• Assist clients in resolving medical insurance issues
• Teach clients how to make medical appointments

Resource Guide – update twice during service year and distribute to Case Specialists in Client Services?

Airport Pickups
• Assist staff in picking new arrivals up from airport
• Assist in purchasing 1st meal for arrivals
• Provide grocery orientation
• Assist with home visits and orientation

School Enrollment - assist families in enrolling their school age children in the St. Louis Public School System
• Compile list of eligible clients, contact school system to arrange appointments
• Assist with transportation
• Orient students to bus stops

Daycare Assistance - help families in selecting and enrolling their pre-school age children into daycare.
• Work with Case Specialists to identify clients
• Research, identify and locate day care facilities close to client’s home
• Accompany clients to 2-3 sites to select facility
• Accompany client on first day and/or arrange for transportation

Public Assistance Applications
• Assist in completing public assistance applications including Food Stamps, Medicaid, Cash Assistance and Daycare as assigned.


• Assist in the recruitment, orientation and if needed, the supervision of volunteers
Attend meetings and trainings
• Initial orientation, CPR/First Aid, Citizenship, Volunteer Recruitment, Respectful Treatment and Disaster Preparedness/Response training; additional professional development opportunities available throughout the service year. 
• Bi-monthly AmeriCorps meetings
• Agency & department meetings
• AmeriCorps trainings, events and activities such as Days of Service, Show-Me Conf. & MLK Day and other service projects as related to project goal.  

The service commitment is for 11 months, 1720 hours.  Benefits available include:  Living Allowance, Health Care, Child Care Assistance, Assistance in paying student loan interest accrued during service term and the Segel Educational Award upon successful service completion.
