The Social Worker provides client-centered, trauma-informed intensive case management and crisis intervention services to humanitarian parolees, refugees, asylees, and special immigrant visa holders who have been in the U.S less than five years. Under the supervision of the Social Work Program Manager, this position works closely with a team of social service professionals, including client advocates and therapists from diverse backgrounds to meet client needs.
Primary Responsibilities
The Social Worker (.8 FTE) will conduct assessments, service planning, and implementation to assist clients experiencing a wide range of issues including but not limited to health, mental health, domestic violence, and resettlement stress.
- Provide crisis intervention and connection to immediate resources
- Provide holistic and comprehensive intensive case management services to all clients
- Connect and refer clients to appropriate outside agencies
- Meet with clients weekly at either IISTL office or client's home to help monitor progress, assess needs, and establish connection to appropriate resources
- Conduct life skills training with individuals or in a group on topics such as budgeting, public transportation, parenting education, disability education, benefits, medication management, and healthcare navigation.
- Follow-up with clients and agencies as appropriate to document the use and/or success of referrals
- Participate in regular staff meetings, staff training opportunities, supervisory sessions, and accept the responsibility for aiding the development of positive team relationships as requested
- Task supervision for social work interns
- Conducting outreach and training to help build capacity in the community around working with refugees and immigrants
- Complete all required documentation in a timely manner
Requirements and Qualifications
- MSW preferred, BSW accepted with 3+ years case management experience
- 1-2 years of experience working with international populations
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and strengths based frameworks
- Knowledge of intercultural practice frameworks (i.e. cultural competency, cultural humility, cultural responsiveness
- Must have a reliable insured vehicle and driver's
- Multilingual preferred (Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Kinyarwanda, Swahili, Nepali, Amharic, Tigrinya; and/or Somali preferred
