Immigrant Career Development Specialist will deliver relevant industry career information to clients along their career pathway, and coach each individual personally based on their specific career needs. This will include referral to internal and external training and resources. This is a full-time position based primarily in the office, requires some flexible hours, and reports to Director of Workforce Solutions.


  • Outreach and connectivity to possible participants, then to provide orientation and assessment for program enrollment.
  • Learn participant’s education level, work history, needs, interests, strengths, and goals for formulation of plans along their career path and to guide services to the participant within the program. 
  • Create individualized Career Development Plans with participants, and assist with formulation of SMART goals to create attainable goals in the short-term and long-term for participants. 
  • Connect participants to local resources/partners, and referral to internal/external career advancement resources and training, and maintaining familiarity with resources available to participants.
  • Provide individualized technical assistance and on-going coaching, encouragement, and guidance to participants along their career path process by maintaining a strengths-based approach to service delivery.   
  • Conduct targeted research of localized industry information for participants, and for the creation of comprehensive Career Pathway Guides through intensive research and connectivity to key stakeholders within specific industries.  
  • Prepare participants for connections to opportunities within various industries and transitions into professional employment by reviewing resumes, cover letters, interview techniques, and additional professional development services for overall career success.
  • Maintain communication and coordination with community partners, as well as to create partnerships and connections within professional networks and industries. Maintain synergy with other IISTL Career Advancement Services for ongoing collaboration and opportunities for Immigrant Career Pathway participants. 
  • Document all client interactions and coordinate regular communication/check-in with participants to maintain strong connection. 
  • Other duties and projects, as assigned. 


  • Bachelor's Degree (BA/BS) and 2-5 years professional work experience, minimum.
  • Experienced one-on-one coach with an ability to form professional relationships with participants.
  • Able to hold some flexibility in hours, such as able to work two Saturdays a month, and office hours beyond 5:00 pm at least two times a week, if needed.
  • Familiarity working with diverse populations and foreign-born individuals
  • Must be able to work independently, network easily, and coordinate with colleagues across departments and organizations. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills including empathy and possessing good instincts, intuition, and an ability to adapt.
  • Excellent listening skills, especially as it pertains to experience in multi-cultural communication.
  • Have proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Proficient in MS Office, online research, and Linked-In.
  • Driver's license and valid insurance.
  • Must maintain professionalism, patience, flexibility, and versatility in all aspects of the program.


  • Language ability in at least one additional language (French, Arabic, Swahili, Creole, Russian, Spanish, Hindi, etc.).
  • Familiar with hiring processes, and some familiarity with barriers to professional employment for immigrants including working knowledge of job-seeking skills/career pathway development.
  • Strong understanding of the St. Louis business community and employment ecosystem.
