IISTL is looking for Business Development Specialist to assist refugees and immigrants. Position responsibilities:

  • Responsible for attracting, evaluating, recommending, and managing refugee and immigrant entrepreneurs for small business lending and consumer lending of up to $55,000.
  • Economic Development: Responsible for support low/moderate income refugee and immigrant clients to build financial assets and become more bankable. A portion of this position's duties will be dedicated to providing training and technical assistance, credit counseling, financial literacy and other related education programs with the knowledge and belief that accessing and managing financial products is a powerful way to build assets and poverty overcome. 

Purpose: Engage with target communities to connect our products and services with their needs, contributing to the growth of the loan portfolios.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop new loan prospects by engaging with the target communities (refugees and immigrants), making sales/outreach calls to visit prospective clients
  • Participate in various business development activities by building purposeful relationships to procure loans
  • Have the ability to move prospects to closed loans using a mentoring or counseling type approach that fulfill clients needs and cultivate long term relationship between IICDC and post-loan clients
  • Provide technical assistance to entrepreneurs as well as credit counseling, financial literacy and other related education programs. 
  • Attend meetings, events and seminars and present department information to various community audiences as necessary
  • Obtain and compile copies of all relevant requested documentation
  • Provide targeted business assistance to prepare applicants for application or review. Assistance includes, but is not limited to, business plans development, financial forecasting and loan packaging
  • Analyze applicants financial status, credit and character to determine feasibility
  • Make recommendations on loans and other economic development program within specified limits
  • Manage applicant pipeline from origination to loan retirement
  • Counsel loan clients on loan repayments policies and restrictions
  • Follow up with clients in arrears
  • Ensure back office functions are maintained and secured includes document files, regulatory compliance and lien/deed recording. 

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the team with community projects. Includes but not limited to Free Tax Filing, Food Pathway and Seasonal Sale Events
  • Develop prospects and participate in economic development programs when needed. Includes but not limited to ASSET Program, Individual Development Account, Credit Building Program and Citizenship Loan.
  • May assist in development, administration and promotions of lending programs


  • Know the basics of credit system and passionate to learn more
  • Passionate to make a visible difference in the lives of diverse families by asset and credit building approach. 
  • Strong computer skills including a fundamental understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and Power Point), Adobe Acrobat.
  • Solid time management and customer service skills.

  • Ability to multi-tasking.
  • Ability to organize & prioritize work load.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, across a variety of audiences.
  • Professional and effective interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience in social entrepreneurship, micro/small business lending or equivalent strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual in preferred.
