Refugee Career Pathways ESOL Curriculum Developer/Trainer
 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform as an active member of the International Institute’s Education Department and Career Pathways project team
  • Provide consistent, professional and client-centered services to adult refugees and asylees as well as secondary migrants
  • Develop curriculum for employment-related Refugee Career Pathway trainings including STEP (Special Training for Employment Program) and VELT (Vocational English Language Training) classes
  • Teach curriculum for STEP and VELT classes that will be offered during afternoon and evening hours
  • Develop and conduct pre-/post-assessments of students in the STEP and VELT classes
  • Maintain/provide student enrollment, attendance and progress records for entry into client database
  • Develop / maintain list of relevant resources within and outside of project
  • Facilitate referrals to appropriate project-related services and community resources
  • Assist with developing promotional materials for the STEP and VELT classes within the Refugee Career Pathway Project
  • Attend project meetings
  • Assist with outcomes report quarterly

Skills/Knowledge

  • Native or near-native English language proficiency
  • Knowledge of American workplace cultural norms and expectations
  • Ability to develop curricula for employment-related ESOL classes to adult refugees and asylees with beginning to intermediate level English
  • Ability to conduct project-developed trainings in an effective manner
  • Ability to develop pre-/post-assessments to measure student progress
  • Ability to research, compile and use employment-related information and resources
  • Detail-oriented, results-driven and focused
  • Ability to work both independently as well as within a team
  • Ability to maintain confidential information

Experience: At least 2 years of experience of teaching ESOL to adults

Education:  Minimum of Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year college
